How To Replace Heavily Worn Rubber Boot Heels

Heels wear down. Replacing boots can be very expensive. Here is a solution which can save you a fortune (or £330 in this case)!

INSTRUCTIONS:

1) Abrade the surface to give give the glue some grooves to cling on to. We did this using a drill but it can also be done using sandpaper.

2) Secure your boots so that the soles are flat. The flatness during curing will determine how accurately the glue will take shape of the heel. If there is excess glue, however, it can be sanded or cut off once cured.

3) Tape around the heel so that the adhesive can’t spill and so that it takes the correct shape.

4) Squeeze glue onto the heel and let it settle and take shape. We recommend 15g for a pair of heels.

5) If there are air bubbles, pop them/brush them out using a sharp object. We used a piece of metal wire.

6) Allow the adhesive to cure for 12 hours.

7) Trim excess glue if required and enjoy your new heels!

Repairing Inflatable Air Beams

It’s looking like inflatable air beam tents are going to be the next big thing for camping in 2014.

We all know that putting up your tent in the pouring rain can be an absolute nightmare and anything to make it faster and easier would be a bonus.

Inflatable air beam tents will do just that just one press of a button and hey presto your tent is up!

However as always these things come with a downside….

Over inflation can cause the bladder to burst and poorly made seams can easily split both of which can be a nightmare to fix without the right materials.  This is where Stormsure has the answer.

For burst or punctured bladders (on a smooth surface not the seam) use our TUFF tape and patches; the area can be easily sealed without any fuss and the repair will be long lasting and tough.

Like wise with the seams (almost impossible to fix using a patch). It’s really important that you use the right type of glue.  Stormsure Flexible Adhesive is perfect for such a job and will create an abrasion resistant, watertight, rubber finish that can with stand almost anything.

If you’re repairing a seam always carefully clean the parts to be glued with a solvent or alcohol.  This will remove any silicone, which was used in the manufacturing process and may have directly caused the weakness in the welded seam.

GET READY FOR CAMPING!

So this week my friends and I decided on a night away camping with the kids and no partners!

I then thought it might be a good idea to have a look at the camping gear we had and see if it was all in good working order.  So far I have found a ripped tent bag, probably from ramming the tent into it on our last excursion!

Image

The simplest answer was to use a Stormsure adhesive patch which is tough, flexible and stretchy and sorted the problem in minutes.

Make sure the area is dust free and dry, apply the patch and press down for a minute or two and hey presto tent bag fixed and ready to go.

First camping trip

Well, let me just say camping isn’t my thing, however when my family asked me if I’d like to go up to the Lake District camping, I couldn’t wait, as I have a passion for photography and thought that it would be the perfect opportunity to take some stunning pictures. When we arrived we were greeted by a downpour of rain, and to say the least, it didn’t put me in the best of moods. We got to the campsite and my parents pulled out this old tatty tent that had been in the garage for years. At that point I knew exactly what this holiday was going to be like.  It eventually stopped raining and we all settled in for the night.

I am normally a heavy sleeper however when there is a constant drip falling between your eyes most people would be woken up, and I was. I reached for my torch and there it was a huge tear. I waited until morning  and told my dad and he said to use a Stormsure patch. To start with I couldn’t think why a sticky patch would fix the problem. I put it on anyway when the tent was dry and the hole was pulled together so you couldn’t see a clear mark where the rip was, it was so simple. All you do is peel the small piece off the back, place it next to the tear/hole and then slowly peel the other piece of paper off the back whilst pressing it down. It literally took 10 seconds 🙂 I was so happy and it was a good thing it was so fast as shortly after I fixed the problem it began raining again. I went into my bedroom compartment and it was dry!! After that we also used the Stormsure patches to fix our groundsheet which our dog had chewed. I have uploaded a pic below of the groundsheet and what a great job these self adhesive, waterproof patches do. I highly recommend these products!
